I was having a particularly bad day in the lab one day. The chemicals needed replaced and the processor has some sort of hidden leak that I had to find and fix and our control strip reader was on the fritz. All of these things I’m expected to either fix or call in the techs who can fix it. Needless to say I was feeling a bit down and rather harried when something rather wonderful happened.
Sometimes it only takes one or two kind words to make someone feel good about themselves–especially when nothing seems to be going right. I received two wonderful compliments that day. First, a woman told me that I was the nicest photo lab tech she’s ever dealt with.
“You’re so patient. Even when I don’t understand and you have to tell me over and over again. I just love the way you help me. That’s why I always ask for you. I tell everyone what a nice lady you are.”
About two hours later, a man told me he was trying to fix the color on his photos. He’s an aspiring professional photographer but he can’t seem to get his colors just right. He told me that I really shouldn’t be working in a photo lab. He was adamant that I am so good that I should be working in a professional studio because I have a natural talent for colors and skin tone. (His words, not mine)
Needless to say, these two compliments gave me a nice, warm and fuzzy feeling. LOL It’s amazing how just a few kind words can take what is actually a pretty bad day and turn it into something that is not only tolerable but a day that ends rather well.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who ever takes the time to compliment people on a job well done or a service well performed. Sometimes just one (free) act of kindness can mean the world to someone.
