In these tough times, ya gotta have some creature comforts. I admit I am a guy who has his guilty pleasures…I’m talking about TV shows and movies that I should be embarassed to admit I love but have hopeless feelings of love for…here in no special order are the things that float my canoe…let me know yours too - I’d like a giggle at your expense as well as my own.
10. The Nanny
Fran Drescher’s series kept me going through dark, dark days when I was forced to euathanize my cat Nelson and I didn’t want to wake up anymore. My friend and former boss is going through chemo right now and Fran is helping her too. We watch it together on Wednesdays when she is receiving chemo. As she said recently, “For that half hour, the world is a lovely, funny place.”
9. Cheaters. I stay up Saturday nights for this junker. Last night was a beaut. The two guys in question were such A-holes ya gotta wonder what women see in them. A-hole # 1 punched his girlfriend in the face sending her to the emergency room when he got caught. A-hole #2 pretended he had never seen his fiancee before - ever! It’s like watching a particularly scuzzy trainwreck…
8. Flashdance. I love this movie in spite of all its obvious flaws. It still makes me want to weld, strip and do rude things to Michael Nouri. Attention Hollywood: Please DO NOT remake this movie!
7. Top Cat. Love this cartoon. He can come and live with me. As long as he bring Choo-choo.
6. The Sound of Music. I love this movie. It just is the most awesome tear jerker. Ever.
5. Golden Girls. when I have cheesecake in the house.
4. Dante’s Cove a gay soap opera that is overblown but wow, is it fun…
3. Mary Poppins. I know I know. But I love her, dammit.
2. Hawaii 5-0 I am totally hot for Jack Lord, the first man I ever saw wearing eye liner and mascara so openly. I also watch it for the naked shots of Honolulu circa 1970s…beautiful.
1. I Love Lucy. I watch her several times a week. She is the queen and I love her. I have never understood the Scottish episode, but one out of 10,000 isn’t bad…
What about you? What are your guilty pleasures?
Aloha oe,
A.J.
