If you remember, several weeks ago, I posted the top ten reasons why I became a writer. Okay, last week I posted several reasons why a would-be author can’t seem to take pen in hand and start writing. I was going to not only list the reasons but why it is silly to think this. I got called in early to work at UPS and wasn’t able to finish it.
So, here they are though it isn’t the top ten reasons, it is still informative.
1) I have nothing to write about.
This is silly. unless you live in a cave, you will always have something to write about.
2) I was terrible in English in Highschool.
It doesn’t matter. So was I—LOL yet I have written three books and two anthologies. When you submit a story say to extasy books and it gets accepted, they have editors that will make your story shine.
3) My friends and family will laugh at me if I tell them I want to be a writer.
Don’t let them bother you. If nothing else, prove them wrong. Prove to them you can not only write, but when a publisher accepts your story, hold the contract under their nose. LOL
4) I want to be a writer, but have no idea where to start.
Similar to #10. Do you like to read about vampires, do you love romance stories, shape shifters etc? Then instead of reading about it, write your own story.
5) Who do I send my story to?
Google epubs. then look at their submission guidelines. There are yahoo groups that you can belong to that offer advice and referrals.
6) I cant afford to hire a literary agent.
You don’t need a literary agent. If you have story, inquire to an epub thier submission guideline. Remember, any epub that wants money up front—run–do not walk away from them. These are what are called vanity publisher. For a fee they will take a story. FOR A FEE!!!!
7) I can’t take rejection.
I was rejected about a dozen times. Don’t get discouraged. Some epubs, if they like your story, will actually tell you what needs to be done to make your story better. Others will not only give you advice, they will ask you to submit it again with the suggested changes.
