Okay, here I sit at my computer wondering what to write. My daughter finally turned off the TV so now I can concentrate. Ha!
I’m still on pain killers from my surgery a little over three weeks ago and I find it hard to focus on what I need to do. I tend to get distracted by the wildlife that hangs out around my house. We have a gopher that our neighbor insists is eating the foundation of his home a quarter of a mile away. He’s out there right now with one of those Gilligan caps on, looking like Bill Murray’s character in Caddyshack. Only he’s carrying a gun not a stick of dynamite and plastic explosives. Thank God! He drew down on a deer for a moment, then—I assume—he remembered it’s not deer season yet. Either that or he realized he had witnesses.
Anyway, I digress. I still haven’t figured out what to blog about. I tried to write a this day in history blog but the most exciting thing that happened in this day in history was the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier was commissioned. While that’s pretty cool news for a Navy wife or Navy brat, why would the average person give a flying flip?
So, I’m off looking again. I still can’t find anything of note that happened today other than September 24th 1869 was Black Friday. The day that Jay Gould and James Fisk attempted to corner the gold market.
Did you know that September 24th was the only day in the year that men could propose to their future wives in Mikeli, in ancient Latvia? It was part of some large three day long festival.
Sigh… I’m still looking but find nothing of great interest. In 1963 our Senate and Britain signed a treaty with the USSR limiting nuclear testing. In 1968 60 Minutes premiered on CBS and the Mod Squad premiered on ABC. Wow. Makes you wonder how a news program beat out two relatively hot guys and a hot girl on prime time TV doesn’t it?
See what I mean? All of these are things that we either didn’t know or just plain forgot about and every one of them while not grand in the grand scheme of things, helped us get where we are today. Are we in a good place? I have no idea. I do know that I’ve decided to pay a little more attention to what’s going on around me instead of constantly watching the TV shows I love so much. I want to remember the little things that contribute to the big picture from now on.
Okay, my neighbor, in his Gilligan hat, scratching his rear while trying to look under my shed for a gopher can be forgotten…
Until next time…

Thank you for your comments, everyone. And thanks for the concern. I’m told it can take as long as 15 months for the pain to go away. Bummer, huh?
At least the pain killers work. LOL I’m sure it won’t take me 15 months to get better. I’ve always healed pretty fast. I only wish I could stop myself from sleeping almost 14 hours a day… LOL I guess I’m getting that rest you talked about, Cathie.
